Stazione Marittima di Salerno
Ninfa, the transparent and fully secure balustrade by Faraone, has been chosen for the new Maritime Terminal of the city of Salerno, design by Zaha Hadid.
On 25th April 2016 the new Salerno Maritime Terminal, which is located in the Manfredi dock, has been inaugurated.
Zaha Hadid has used glass, concrete and ceramic to conceive of “an oyster with a hard outer shell that contains fluid and soft elements inside, with a ‘hardened’ coat that forms a protective shield from the intense sunlight of the Mediterranean”.
The Hadid team has chosen over 300 meters of Ninfa balustrade that runs through the inside of the oyster, suspended between sky and sea.
The 2000 project was suspended and reopened in 2010. In the same year, we were chosen to install a transparent and fully secure balustrade.
The challenge was to make the Ninfa system follow the soft curves designed by the famous Anglo-Iraqi architect and guarantee, at the same time, the high performances of resistance to the thrust and impact, reaching 300 kg per linear meter. These values have been achieved thanks to laboratory tests and on site tests required by the customer.
Tempered and laminated glass 12+12+1.52 PVB is designed for a high resistance and in this project it has been necessary to provide the right balance between material (concrete) and transparency.
The scale, the curved lines, the glass inclination and its integration with the concrete were the key points that the Faraone staff, along with the Hadid team, faced to meet the challenge of an unusual project.
The Temple of Augustus in Pozzuoli, the Seat Palace of Lecce, the Clouds by Fuksas, the Mugello Racing Circuit, the Udine stadium, private buildings and villas are just some of the more complex projects that the Faraone company has made with the Ninfa balustrade.
The Faraone company is always ready for new challenges.
